Discover the sounds behind Temper Tantrum! For this edition of Off The Shelf, George and Ayesha pull back the records and hand-picks some of their favourite tracks, the ones that have been on their mind, influencing their sound and shaping who they are as artists.
George picks…
Lads Lads Lads – Lambrini Girls
Sarcastic lyrics that send a strong message.
GFY – Amyl and the Sniffers
Angry and explicit.
Muzzle – Destroy Boys
Short, repetitive and straight to the point.
Piss Punk – VIAL
Unapologetic with a satisfying comedown.
Ayesha picks…
Skunk Anansie – Little Baby Swastikka
Challenges how racism and fascism are forced upon us from a young age.
Gandhi Mate, Gandhi – Enter Shikari
Genre-bending chaos with an important message.
Milk – Hands Off Gretel
An angry song about how animals in the dairy industry are treated.
I am a Poseur – X-Ray Spex
Discusses the experience of being black and brown in a predominantly white music scene.
STRAP! – The Oozes
The first song I heard that talks about queer sex to the same raw, unfiltered extent that straight people are able to and still get radio play and media coverage.
Temper Tantrum are a high-energy, all-queer Riot Grrrl band. The band’s unapologetic and angry attitude is explicit in their performance and their approach to songwriting. Their shows are not to be missed, and they’ll have you pulled in from the first note, ’til their last. Their gigs are protests through music, and remain a place to connect with like-minded people.
See Temper Tantrum live when they support Be N!ce at The Victoria on Thursday, 17th September!
