The Northern Threads are a four-piece indie rock and roll band from the fells of West Cumbria, comprised of Jake McNicholas, Robbie Dillon, Ethan Lawson and Sean Donnan, who have been quietly building one of the most impressive grassroots CVs in the north of England since 2016. Support slots with The Snuts and Twisted Wheel and gigs alongside The Vaccines and Bad Nerves; these are a band who have done the work.

‘Won’t Break Me’ sounds like a band who know that. There’s a confidence and a swagger to it that feels entirely earned, that characteristic gravel-through-honey quality, guitars that push and a vocal that meets them with real conviction. The influences are clear: Courteeners, Catfish and the Bottlemen, a little Oasis DNA in the foundations… but The Northern Threads wear them without apology and make the song their own.

It’s a punchy, direct piece of indie rock that does exactly what it sets out to do. If you’ve not caught on to them yet, ‘Won’t Break Me’ is as good a place to start as any.
